After being bounced from the playoffs last night, the Celtics are making some substantial changes. Adrian Wojnarowski reported that general manager Danny Ainge is planning on stepping down, and head coach Brad Stevens will be moving into a full-time front office role.

For an organization as prideful as the Celtics, it’s far from shocking to see major shakeups after a disappointing season. However, the next bit of news dropped by Chris Haynes should be far more concerning for Celtics fans. Apparently, former Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce has emerged as one of the head coaching candidates for the vacancy.

I mean no disrespect to Coach Pierce; he always provided wonderfully insightful interviews, was an excellent representative of the Atlanta community, and honestly got a bit of a raw deal when it came to the Hawks rosters and injuries. Still, he finished with a 63-120 record in Atlanta, and the progression the team made under Nate McMillan was evident. It’s not often that you see a coach fail that miserably with the Hawks then get hired by the Celtics, but we are still far away from that point. For now, it’s nice to see Coach Pierce get another opportunity to interview for a head coaching gig, and hopefully, he is more successful the next time around.
