A former Toronto Raptors guard and NBA veteran announced his retirement from the league after 11 seasons.
“I think I’m done… I think I got all the basketball out of me,” said Ross in the latest episode of the T. Ross Podcast. “I just want to be at home with the kids and, just being on the road was draining.”
Ross averaged 8.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 43% from the field and 36.3% from three-point range over his 11-year NBA career.
He was selected by the Raptors in the first round of the 2012 NBA draft with the eighth overall pick. He spent five years in Toronto, before being traded to the Orlando Magic in a deal for Serge Ibaka. After seven years in Orlando, he had a brief 21-game stint with the Phoenix Suns last season.
Ross' Raptors highlight came on January 25, 2014, when he scored 51 points, trying a then-franchise with Vince Carter, a number that was surpassed by Fred VanVleet in 2021.
In Toronto, he averaged 9.5 points, on 42.2% shooting with a 37.6% three-point stroke over 363 games.
Ross said injuries, specifically in his back and knee, and wanting to spend more time with his family were major factors in his decision to step away from the NBA.
“I started getting hurt a lot,” he said. “I started getting weird injuries and started losing cartilage in my knees. I just want to be home with the kids. I don’t think people realize how much we’re gone. I missed so many birthdays, so many family events.”
Ross was a 2013 NBA Slam Dunk champion, defeating Jeremy Evans for the crown during All-Star Weekend in Houston.
