The Golden State Warriors have released their injury report for Saturday night's game against the Phoenix Suns, and Gary Payton II has been cleared for a return. Payton has not played since January 2nd, as a left hamstring strain has sidelined him for over a month.

The Warriors announced an official injury update on Payton on Tuesday that read the following:

"Warriors guard Gary Payton II, who suffered a grade 2 strain of his left hamstring on January 2 vs. Orlando and has missed the last 14 games, was recently re-evaluated. The reevaluation indicated that Payton is making good progress, and he has begun to practice with the team. His eventual return to game action will be based on his continued progress. His status will be listed as day-to-day."

No longer day-to-day, Payton has been upgraded to available, which is huge news for the Warriors. Not making any moves at the deadline, Golden State is hoping the injury returns of Payton and eventually Chris Paul will help continue some of the momentum they have built over the last several games.

A great defender, Payton should help a Golden State defense that has been poor all season - albeit still very solid with Draymond Green in the lineup. Set to return on Saturday, Payton will be back in the mix as the Warriors remain in pursuit if a play-in spot.
