The season is officially over for the Golden State Warriors . This also means that Klay Thompson may have already suited up for the last time for the Dubs now that he’s headed to free agency this summer.

There has been a lot of talk about the five-time All-Star potentially playing his last game for the Warriors — a subject that head coach Steve Kerr refused to sidestep shortly after Tuesday’s heartbreaking 118-94 defeat to the Sacramento Kings.

Golden State Warriors News: Steve Kerr Wants Klay Thompson Back

When asked by reporters to share his thoughts on Thompson’s future with the Warriors, Coach Kerr decided to respond to the question in a direct manner. According to the four-time NBA champion coach, Golden State wants to keep Thompson beyond this season:

“Hopefully we can resign Klay,” Kerr said, via Kendra Andrews of ESPN. “Steph and Draymond are already under contract. Hopefully we can run it back next year … we need Klay back … what he represents for us… he’s still got good years left. I know I speak for everyone in the organization: we want him back.”

While this may be a reassuring statement for Warriors fans who are hoping to see Thompson back in uniform next season, at the end of the day, this could be out of Kerr’s hands. He will obviously have a say in all this, but ultimately, it’s going to be Thompson’s decision.

For now, there’s just no guarantee that Klay is going to run it back with the Dubs next year. For all we know, we may have just witnessed the end of an era.
