Grizzlies star Ja Morant doubtful to return during NBA Playoffs

The Memphis Grizzlies do not anticipate Ja Morant playing again until next year, as the team ruled him doubtful to return this postseason from a bone bruise suffered in Game 3 against the Golden State Warriors.

Morant, 22, earned All-Star and Most Improved Player honors after leading the Grizzlies in scoring and assists during the regular season. In nine playoff games, Morant averaged 27.1 points, 9.8 assists, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals, leading Memphis in all four categories.

Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said the injury occurred when Morant's knee was grabbed by Warriors guard Jordan Poole during a double team trap.

With Morant out of action in Game 4, the Grizzlies lost 101-98, despite the Warriors missing their first 15 three-point attempts of the game.

Memphis finished the regular season 56-26, which tied the best record in franchise history.
