One of the greatest honors a young athlete can receive is to be acknowledged by one of the greatest players in history. The Dallas Mavericks Luka Doncic recently got this honor from NBA legend Allen Iverson . The veteran chose Doncic as the face of the NBA in the future.

Allen Iverson was honored with a statue by the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday. For the event, Iverson was interviewed by ESPN on NBA Today. During the interview, host Kendrick Perkins asked the legend’s choice for the next face of the NBA. After a little hesitation, Iverson picked the Mavericks guard to take the wheel in the future.

Luka is crazy, man. His skill set is just ridiculous, man. I mean Perk, this guy's scoring 70 man…It's hard to guard Luka one-on-one. Allen Iverson via ESPN

The star referred to Luka Doncic‘s career-high 73-point performance in January, which is the third most points scored in NBA history. Iverson also praised Doncic’s scoring ability by calling him ‘hard to guard’. The 25-year-old’s skills are truly incredible considering it’s his 6th year in the league. The Slovenian is already getting compared to the legends of the Mavericks franchise.

Doncic’s amazing performance this season has made him one of the top contenders for this year’s MVP award. The player is breaking many records as he leading the Dallas Mavericks to the playoffs. Dallas is currently fifth in the Western Conference as Doncic is almost averaging in triple-doubles with 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists.

Allen Iverson said Luka Doncic reminds him of himself

This was not the first time, Iverson had high praise for the Mavericks’ guard. The veteran was impressed by the youngster’s style of playing in today’s NBA. Doncic’s scoring ability pushed the star to describe him uniquely.

Before declaring him as the future of the NBA, last month Allen Iverson praised Doncic as he appeared on The Big Podcast with Shaq. The show’s host and NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal asked AI to name a current player who resembles him.

Everybody say Ja [Morant]. But let me talk about this guy. What the hell is wrong with Luka?… I’m talking about his style like it’s kind of like street ball mixed like.. then I don’t want nobody to take this the wrong way, He plays like a black guy .

Iverson took the opportunity to praise Doncic’s old-school style of playing. The legend complimented Doncic’s cool demeanor on the court. He could not help but applaud the guard’s shooting and scoring abilities. An acknowledgment from one of the greats of the game is a huge pat on the back for Doncic.
