In a recent update that has left Los Angeles Lakers fans disheartened, insider Anthony F. Irwin shared disappointing news about center Jaxson Hayes’ future with the team.

In a tweet posted on May 27, 2025, Irwin revealed that the Lakers are aggressively pursuing new centers to bolster their roster, with a specific focus on acquiring multiple big men who complement each other—particularly a lob threat to pair with Luka Doncic

However, the most striking revelation was Irwin’s comment that “it doesn’t seem likely Hayes will be back,” signaling a potential end to Hayes’ tenure with the purple and gold.

Hayes, who joined the Lakers in 2023, has had an up-and-down stint with the team.

Despite flashes of potential, his role diminished significantly during the 2024-25 season, where he averaged just 6.8 points and 4.8 rebounds in 19.5 minutes across 56 games.

His lack of offensive impact was glaring, including a meager one-point performance in a playoff loss to the Timberwolves.

Even as a starter, Hayes often failed to make a meaningful mark, averaging 8.3 points over his last 14 starts.

The Lakers’ shift in strategy, emphasizes young, athletic lob threats to redefine their identity under LeBron James’ leadership.

With names like Nic Claxton and Steven Adams floating in fan discussions on X, Hayes appears to be the odd man out.

While his departure isn’t finalized, this update casts a shadow over his future, leaving fans to ponder what’s next for the 25-year-old big man as the Lakers aim for a high-flying resurgence.
