Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is high on Frank Kaminsky

The Charlotte Hornets received some flack when they selected reigning National Player of the Year Frank Kaminsky with the ninth pick in this year's draft.

Despite putting up an average of 18.8 points and nearly nine rebounds per game en route to leading his Wisconsin Badgers to the National Title game against Duke, pundits indicated that his ceiling was nowhere near as high as other possibilities for the Hornets in the lottery.

It appears that Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, one of the best big men to set foot on a NBA, court disagrees with this sentiment:

“Well, I think if the younger players understand how much they can achieve playing close to the basket with their back to the basket that we can get back to it,” the six-time NBA champion said on SiriusXM NBA Radio (h/t the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel). “And the kid that I liked the most from what I saw in the NCAA playoffs was Frank Kaminsky from Wisconsin. He really impressed me because he had that type of versatility."

The NBA sure is lacking the low-post scoring threats that we have seen in previous eras. The fundamentals that come with posting up with your back to the basket and being able to score on a consistent basis just doesn't seem to be ingrained in college basketball players these days. That's a trend that Kaminsky himself attempted to move past during his career in Madison.

Heading into training camp, the 7-foot, 240-pound Kaminsky is expected to back up at both the power forward and center positions. Though, there's a decent chance that he could overtake Cody Zeller at the four, which would give the Hornets a huge frontcourt with Kaminsky and veteran center Al Jefferson.
