Kevin Durant admits to being awestruck by Bucks star

Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard won the 2024 All-Star Game MVP. He ended the contest with 39 points, three rebounds and six assists.

Some of his shots were from around the half-court line, drawing interest from fans and players alike.

When speaking to the media as part of his postgame news conference, Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant admitted that he was in awe of Lillard's half-court shooting ability.

"Me and Kawhi were in awe of him shooting from the halfcourt line like it's a free throw," Durant said. "That's just strength, power and muscle memory. Someone who works extremely hard on every day on their craft to be able to do that without flinching. It was just normal, natural motion. Those are the supreme athletes. It's good that we get to celebrate them on weekends like this."

Lillard's performance is a reminder of how talented he is. His struggles since joining the Bucks have overshadowed his elite skill set. However, on the biggest stage of the season thus far, Lillard rose to the occasion. Of course, fans will be quick to point out the lack of defense that was on offer.

Still, there's no denying that Lillard is one of the best shooters in the NBA. He's capable of scoring from seemingly anywhere on the court.

Now, his next task will be proving that he can achieve those feats against an NBA-level defense during the regular season. The Bucks need that version of Lillard to emerge on their roster.

The pairing of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Lillard is capable of challenging for a championship this season.

Lillard needs to prove Durant's praise is deserved. He needs to prove the Bucks were right to take such a big swing when acquiring him from the Portland Trail Blazers.

An All-Star MVP is a great award. Now, he needs to use it as a platform to reach loftier goals. After all, that's why he forced his way out of Portland in the first place.
