Warriors' Stephen Curry believes NBA players are 'underpaid'

Are NBA players underpaid? Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry argues yes. The greatest shooter in NBA history said Thursday on Complex’s “360 With Speedy” that because the league’s current CBA doesn’t allow for current players to invest in league and team equity, players are leaving money on the table. “I would say, yes, we are underpaid,” Curry admitted when asked, despite enormous salaries, if the players were getting short-changed, “because you wanna be able to participate in that rise [of equity].” “It’s a partnership with ownership, [and] it’s a partnership with the league,” the 37-year-old stressed, revealing that league salaries do not reflect players’ impact on team valuations. If anyone has the right to begrudge the current CBA on player participation in equity, it’s Curry. When drafted in 2009, the Warriors were worth $315 million. Current valuations in May of 2025 have the team at $9.4 billion, the most in the league. Curry’s been paid handsomely during his time in Golden State, and he doesn’t overlook it. “I know we’re blessed to be in a position where we’re playing basketball for a living, and these are the type of checks that people are earning,” he told Complex. However, when he signed his $62.6 million one-year extension in 2024 that would keep him in a Warriors’ jersey until 2027, many felt that no amount of money the franchise could offer him would represent his worth. Curry had an undeniable impact on the Warriors’ valuation increasing by nearly 3,000%. He’s benefited by being the most salaried player on the roster and plenty of endorsement deals. But is he getting his fair share? Something similar may happen with reigning NBA Finals MVP and Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who just signed the richest contract in league history with an average annual value of $71.25 million. According to Forbes, the Thunder’s valuation increased 20% from 2023 to 2024 and will likely take another jump after this year’s championship. Curry concedes that player participation in equity isn’t a simple concept and not all markets are created equal: “You got competitive advantage considerations…and want every market to have a fair chance, like I get all that.” He believes, however, that finding a solution is a “mutually beneficial proposition” for players, teams and the league. Even the most expensive people in the world need to find other investors to make owning an NBA team possible. The best example of Curry’s point is the Boston Celtics sale in March. The most-championed franchise in league history was sold to Bill Chisholm for $6.1 billion, the largest ever sports franchise sale in North America at the time. Chisholm needed Rob Hale, Bruce Beal Jr., and private equity firm Sixth Street, to afford the purchase. Because team ownership is already a multi-investor operation, the league could potentially come to an agreement with the players by the next CBA negotiation at the end of the decade. If not, the league's best players will continue to simultaneously earn a ridiculous amount of money, and it will not be nearly enough.

‘Swamp People’ Stars Announce Devastating Death & Fans Are Heartbroken

The cast of the History Channel reality series Swamp People are mourning the loss of one of their own. On Saturday, July 26, “Little” Willie Edwards revealed via Facebook that his grandfather, Junior Edwards, died. “Rest easy pawpaw,” he captioned a photo of Junior out on the water with “Little” Willie’s father, Willie Edwards. “I know your probably running your hoop nets or doing something crazy inside those pearly gates…you will be extremely missed pawpaw we love you more than anything!!! Until we meet again .” “Little” Willie did not share further details about his grandfather’s death, including the date and cause. Hundreds of fans offered their condolences for the TV star and his family in the post’s comments. “I’m so so sorry to hear this! Loosing a daddy is incredibly hard! Y’all are in my prayers!!!” one Facebook user wrote, while another added, “Man I hate hearing this! Prayers for your family. Such a good man.” “Prayers for your family. We loved watching your paw paw when he was on,” wrote another fan. “May he rest in Heaven. We loved watching your paw paw when he was on. May he rest in Heaven.” Rest easy pawpaw….i know your probably running your hoop nets or doing something crazy inside those pearly gates…you will be extremely missed pawpaw we love you more than anything!!! Until we meet again Posted by Lil Willie Edwards on Saturday, July 26, 2025 Offering their “deepest condolences,” one fan said Junior was one of their “favorite” stars on Swamp People. A different person shared, “NO! I loved watching your Dad and him in the swamps. Rest easy.” “Little” Willie’s costar, Ronnie Adams, reacted to Junior’s death by sharing a photo of himself with Willie and his two sons via Instagram. “Praying for the Edward’s in this time of need!!! Rest in peace Junior!!!” he wrote alongside the snap. Swamp People‘s Ashley “Deadeye” Jones also paid tribute to Junior via Instagram. “The world lost a legend! Mr Junior Edwards passed away! Please be in prayer for the family!” she captioned a selfie of the two of them on Saturday. “He was one of the greatest alligator hunters there is! He was real hardcore outdoorsman! I watched this man bring in MONSTER gators at Duffys Gas Station in Pierre Part LA. This was after a looooong day for both of us and you can tell it! Glad we took a second for a pic!” Junior was part of the original cast of Swamp People when the series premiered in 2010. The show follows groups of Louisiana natives in the Atchafalaya Basin during alligator hunting season. He was among several cast members who exited the show following Season 6 in 2015, and clarified rumors about his departure via Facebook that same year. “I see a bunch of posts saying that a certain family was saying that we asked for more money and thats why we are not on the show anymore,” he wrote at the time. “To clear up gossip and BS. We never asked for anything. Only communication we had with the production company was when we were told that we would not be on the show any more. We have made our living off the bayou all our lives. We dont need a camera stuck in our faces to do that like some people.” Junior later made his return to Swamp People during Season 12 in 2021. “Surprise… look who’s back,” he quipped in a February 2021 Facebook post.

New suitor emerges for Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez

New suitor emerges for Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez

The Arizona Diamondbacks have plenty of suitors for third baseman Eugenio Suarez. A new team has reportedly entered the market for his services. Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the Phillies have reached out regarding Suarez. While Lauber did not provide any indication as to whether or not those talks have gained traction, the Phillies are an intriguing suitor for the Diamondbacks' third baseman. The Phillies' interest may be a recent development. Jon Heyman of the New York Post speculated on Friday that the Phillies could emerge as a suitor in the wake of third baseman Alec Bohm landing on the injured list with a fractured left rib. Suarez is in the midst of what is arguably his best season thus far. He has produced a .249/.321/.587 batting line in 421 plate appearances entering Saturday with 36 homers and a major league-leading 87 RBI. Suarez would be more than just another powerful bat in the lineup. Designated hitter Kyle Schwarber and first baseman Bryce Harper are both left-handed hitters — adding Suarez would provide more balance in the batting order. He would also provide a counter against opposing managers bringing in a lefty reliever to face Schwarber and Harper. The biggest question would be how the Phillies would handle an eventual logjam on the roster. Bohm is expected to return from the IL in mid-August and would not have a clear path to regular at-bats if Suarez were acquired. Schwarber could theoretically return to left field to open up playing time at the DH spot, but his outfield defense is mediocre at best. However, as the Phillies are also looking to upgrade the outfield, where Max Kepler and Brandon Marsh have been disappointments, adding Suarez could solve several problems in one fell swoop.

Yankees manager provides major update on Aaron Judge's injury

New York Yankees star Aaron Judge missed Saturday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies with an elbow injury, and the slugger is now headed to the injured list. The Yankees fell 9-4 to the Phillies on Saturday at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, N.Y., which marked their third consecutive loss. Judge played in Friday night's 12-5 loss to Philadelphia, but Aaron Boone announced before Saturday's game that Judge was dealing with an "elbow issue" and would sit out. Following his team's latest loss, Boone shared some new information about Judge's injury. Judge has been diagnosed with a flexor strain, but the Yankees believe he can return in less than two weeks. When Judge returns to the lineup, Boone said it will initially be as a designated hitter. Judge is having an outstanding season. He entered Saturday batting .342, which is the best mark in baseball. The reigning American League MVP has 37 home runs, 85 RBI and a 1.160 OPS. The Yankees are now six games behind the AL East-leading Toronto Blue Jays and fighting to remain atop the wild-card race. It goes without saying that they are hopeful Judge will be able to return as soon as possible.
