Kevin Durant reacts to Steph Curry breaking his Game 7 mark
Steph Curry added to his remarkable legacy on Sunday, setting the NBA mark for points in a Game 7.
In Golden State's 120-100 win over the Sacramento Kings, Steph Curry dropped 50 points, surpassing the NBA record previously held by Kevin Durant. Following Curry's historic outing, Durant took to social media, giving props to his former teammate.
Durant didn't hold the record for long, setting it in 2021 while with the Brooklyn Nets after posting 48 points against the Milwaukee Bucks. Curry finished two points better and won the game, unlike Durant and the Nets, who fell to the eventual NBA Champion Bucks.
With the season on the line against the upstart Kings, Curry unsurprisingly came up big in the clutch. The two-time MVP shot 52.6 from the field and 38.9 percent from three, adding eight rebounds and six assists in the blowout win.
Curry is no stranger to big moments, but even his longtime teammates were stunned by Sunday's performance.
Klay Thompson, Curry's teammate for 12 seasons, said this Game 7 will stick out.
"When he's in a zone like that, you try to just get him in his spots, get him the ball, get out the way," Thompson said via NBC Sports Bay Area. "Gosh, what an incredible performance. This is a Game 7 that I'll forever remember as the Steph Curry game."
Meanwhile, others like Gary Payton II were at a loss for words trying to describe Curry.
After surviving a very game Sacramento team, the task doesn't get any easier for the Warriors, who advance to face LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals.
Golden State will host the Lakers for Game 1 on Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET.
