Knicks' Quentin Grimes leaves game with dislocated kneecap

One of the Knicks' brightest young stars may be out for a while.

Quentin Grimes left New York's game against Miami on Friday night with a knee injury, and it was reported not long later that he suffered a subluxation of the right patella. According to Healthline, "patellar subluxation is a partial dislocation of the kneecap (patella)."

Near the end of the first quarter, the Heat had the ball in their half-court offense. As Gabe Vincent initiated the offense up top, Tyler Herro cut toward the baseline and curled off a screen from PJ Tucker looking to get open as Grimes trailed in defense.

Grimes collided with Tucker, then tumbled to the court holding his leg. Play was stopped and after a few moments, Grimes was helped up and assisted back to the locker room by his Knicks teammates and staff.

Over 39 games played this season, Grimes is averaging 6.5 points, two rebounds and one assist per game. He's been a pleasant surprise as a rookie for New York, stepping in as an immediate rotation piece and occasional starter. In his first career start back on Dec. 12, he scored 27 points and made seven threes.

Grimes was selected 25th overall by the Clippers in last summer's draft but was immediately traded to the Knicks. He began his college career at Kansas but after one season transferred to Houston, which he helped lead to the Final Four in the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
