Lakers reportedly waive Quinn Cook to open up roster spot

The Lakers are reportedly waiving Quinn Cook in a season where the veteran was playing limited. The decision to waive the fifth-year guard, which was reported by The Athletic's Shams Charania, gives Los Angeles an additional roster spot and some cap flexibility to sign another player to take Quinn's place.

Cook was a part of the Lakers' championship roster last year but has failed to earn a regular spot in the team's rotation this season, averaging less than four minutes per game while scoring 2.1 points and dishing out 0.3 assists.

The Lakers are currently in the midst of a three-game losing streak and their troubles may not end anytime soon, as Anthony Davis is expected to be out for several more weeks and Dennis Schröder quarantining for seven days. With Cook gone, Los Angeles could potentially bring in someone who could help reignite the team's stagnant offense. The Lakers have previously been linked to DeMarcus Cousins.

As for Cook, while his tenure in Los Angeles is over, he is likely to end up on another NBA team sooner rather than later, as Charania said that he should be an attractive addition for teams looking for a reliable outside shooter.

"Teams are expected to express interest in Cook, who has served as a reliable guard and locker room voice for two title teams in L.A. and Golden State," Charania wrote on Twitter.
