According to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, Marcus Morris has agreed to a buyout with the San Antonio Spurs

Morris is now an unrestricted free agent. He can sign with any team of his choice.

The Philadelphia 76ers traded Morris to the Spurs as part of the three-team deal that sent Buddy Hield  from the Indiana Pacers to the Sixers and  Doug McDermott from the Spurs to the Pacers. San Antonio was always expected to part ways with Morris since the franchise is in rebuild mode.

Patrick Beverley , who was traded by the Sixers to the Milwaukee Bucks, tweeted from his podcast account that Morris is leaning toward signing with the Minnesota Timberwolves, who have the best record in the Western Conference at 42-17

Morris is averaging 6.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists this season while shooting 43.9% from the field, 40.0% from beyond the arc and 86.1% from the free-throw line. He appeared in 37 games with the Sixers before getting traded.

A Philadelphia native, Morris has career averages of 12.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists with the Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers and Sixers. He’s represented by Chafie Fields of Wasserman.

The Timberwolves are 20th in the NBA in points per game and first in points per game allowed. They look like a legitimate title contender with Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley leading the way.

Minnesota made one move at the trade deadline, sending Troy Brown Jr. and Shake Milton to the Pistons for Monte Morris
