Michael Jordan meeting with Charlotte Hornets HC finalists this week
Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan will meet with finalists for the team's head-coaching job this week, ESPN reported on Monday.
According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Mike D'Antoni and Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson are among the finalists meeting with Jordan this week.
The Hornets dismissed head coach James Borrego in April after four seasons with the team.
A two-time NBA Coach of the Year, D'Antoni was 217-102 in his four seasons coaching the Houston Rockets. Over 16 seasons coaching in the league, he is 672-527 (.560) in regular-season play and 54-56 in the playoffs.
Atkinson went 118-190 in three-plus years after inheriting coaching responsibilities for the Brooklyn Nets, stepping down in 2020. He later served as an assistant coach for Los Angeles Clippers and joined Steve Kerr's staff in Golden State ahead of the Warriors' current playoff run.
Should Atkinson get the job in Charlotte, he would be the second member of Kerr's staff to leave and coach his own team. Warriors associate head coach Mike Brown has already accepted the job of Sacramento Kings head coach for next season.
