After a forgettable performance in the loss to the Sacramento Kings that ended the Golden State Warriors’ playoff dreams, Klay Thompson’s future with the team is now a hot topic of discussion.

For many NBA fans, they don’t see Thompson returning to the franchise next year, and for good reason.

Is Klay Thompson’s Golden State Warriors Stint Over?

When the Warriors needed him the most in order to keep their postseason hopes alive, Thompson instead played one if, if not his worst game of the year against the Kings on Sunday.

In the 9th vs. 10th battle on Sunday that would give the winner a spot in the 8th seed game, Thompson was horrendous and was a big reason why the Dubs were blown out by the Kings. Klay was held scoreless in the contest despite playing for 32 minutes.

Thompson shot 0-of-10 from the field, including 0-of-6 from deep, as the Warriors bowed out 118-94.

After the game, Stephen Curry opened up about the possibility of the Dubs breaking up the Big 3 of him, Thompson and Draymond Green. Klay, in particular, is set to be an unrestricted free agent and could be on his way out considering his declining performance.

“I can never see myself not with those two guys. I understand this league changes and there’s so many things that go into it. … I know they want to win and I want to win. That’s all I’m worried about,” Curry shared following their Tuesday defeat.

Fans Think It’s Over for Klay Thompson With Golden State Warriors

Considering the position that the Golden State Warriors are in–with their core players aging, failing to make the playoffs, and being in the luxury tax position that needs some financial relief–many NBA fanatics see Klay Thompson being the odd man out.

And after that forgettable performance, the belief that the Warriors won’t re-sign him just got stronger and more intense.

“Sorry, but Klay Thompson needs to go We all love Klay Thompson and his contribution for Warriors over the years. But, now we need to develop the team for the future,” a commenter said.

A disappointed Dubs fan added, “Klay Thompson’s contract extension getting pulled from him as we speak. Idc what he’s done for the franchise, 0 points in over 20 minutes is f**king pathetic. We should have never traded [Jordan] Poole for a 39-year-old bum either, our future is ruined. This franchise has crumbled.”

“Klay Thompson, thank you for your service. You are now relieved of your duties. Best of luck in future endeavors,” another X user shared.

It remains to be seen what the Warriors will actually do about Thompson, but sure enough, they will have some hard decisions to make in order to make the franchise competitive again.
