The Houston Rockets have one of the league's best defenses, but the offense needs some work, especially beyond the 3-point line.

Perhaps the team should look at a free agent or two on the open market that can help them out in that department. Bleacher Report suggests that the team could sign shooting guard Rodney McGruder.

"If the Rockets brought Rodney McGruder to Space City, he could help perk up the offense without doing any damage to the defense. He might even make Houston's greatest strength a smidge stronger, as his activity level and awareness often put him in the right place at the right time," Bleacher Report writes. "He isn't a volume shooter by any means, but he's a career 36 percent perimeter shooter who canned his long-range looks at a 39-plus percent clip each of the past three seasons."

McGruder, 32, has seven years of NBA experience ... three with the Miami Heat, one with the Los Angeles Clippers and the past three with the Pistons. He remains a free agent that hasn't played since March 21. McGruder was with the Golden State Warriors in training camp this year, but he was ultimately cut before the start of the regular season.

Perhaps a spot on theĀ Rockets is exactly what McGruder needs to keep his career alive.

The Rockets are back in action tonight against the Atlanta Hawks. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
