NBA gives first look at 'bubble court' in Orlando

Video has been released of the NBA's "bubble court" in Orlando, with the video showing that "Black Lives Matter" will be displayed prominently just above the NBA logo at the center of the court.

Since the NBA began planning its return, players have been adamant about the league promoting social justice in the midst of nationwide protests against systemic racism and police brutality. The league has insisted that it will support players, and this court shows that the Association will attempt to put a spotlight on race in America rather than be a distraction from the important dialogue.

Additionally, players can wear a pre-approved phrase, including "Black Lives Matter," on the backs of their jerseys in place of their last names.

Of course, the other thing that is hard not to notice is the lack of stands in the video, as fans will not be in attendance during the games due to COVID-19. It is still bizarre to imagine NBA games played without fans, though the quality of the court may help it still feel like a professional game rather than a summer pickup game. There is also a socially distanced bench and some spaced-out chairs for those who will be in attendance.

The NBA is set to resume on July 30, with the latest round of testing showing no positive tests based on testing of 346 players within the bubble since results were last announced on July 13. The previous round of testing showed two positive tests out of 322 players tested.
