Nets-Trail Blazers postponed amid Brooklyn's COVID outbreak

The COVID outbreak that hit the Brooklyn Nets is now eating away at their schedule. The NBA announced their Thursday night matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers has to be postponed because they can't dress enough players.

This is the third straight Nets game that has been postponed. Their next scheduled game, Christmas day against the Lakers, is now in jeopardy because of the outbreak.

While the Nets aren't the only team to be hit by the recent COVID wave, they have definitely been hit the hardest. Brooklyn currently has 10 players in COVID protocol, including stars Kevin Durant and James Harden. Point guard Kyrie Irving, who has not played this season because he has refused to get vaccinated, is also in the protocol.

The NBA has now had to postpone eight games due to the recent COVID outbreak brought on by the Omicron variant. Despite the rising number of cases, commissioner Adam Silver told ESPN's Malika Andrews there is no plan to pause the season.

As for the schedule on Christmas day, Silver said games will still be played even if the schedule has to be amended a bit due to postponed games — including the Nets-Lakers matchup currently slated for 8 p.m. ET.
