On Friday, the Utah Jazz cut their currently packed roster, as they decided to release former 2020 second rounder, Vernon Carey Jr. He was signed onto the Jazz on an Exhibit 10 deal going into next season, however, unfortunately couldn’t make it through the duration of the Summer League’s entirety.

The former Duke Blue Devil was initially drafted by the Charlotte Hornets, then traded to the Washington Wizards in his sophomore season. While trying to find his footing back in the league in Utah, his time has been cut a bit shorter than expected.

Carey got some run for the Jazz’s Summer League squad back in Salt Lake City, where he posted averages of 10.3 points on 52% shooting from the field, paired with 6.0 rebounds in his 19 minutes played. Despite his glimpses of production, the Jazz have cut ties with him, now freeing some much-needed roster space.

If the offer sheet of Paul Reed processes past the Philadelphia 76ers, he would forecast to fill that roster slot as soon as Monday. There’s still a good chunk of offseason to look ahead to, so the movement down the Jazz’s roster may not be complete just yet.
