Report: LeBron James, Anthony Davis met with Russell Westbrook earlier this month about Wizards star joining Lakers

Russell Westbrook reportedly met with LeBron James and Anthony Davis at James' home two weeks ago to discuss the trio playing together with the Los Angeles Lakers. 

According to Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times, the three players expressed their desire to bring the Lakers another championship by "putting their egos aside." In addition, Westbrook talked about "coming back home" to win a championship. He is from Long Beach, Calif. 

According to Turner, James and Davis told Westbrook they would be willing to switch positions to accommodate him. James could switch to power forward and Davis to center. 

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers and Washington Wizards agreed to a deal that would send Westbrook and second-round picks in the 2024 and 2028 drafts to L.A. for Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and the No. 22 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft.

The Lakers were reportedly interested in a veteran point guard this offseason in hopes of building a new big three and contending for another title after a disappointing first-round playoff loss last season.

In addition to Westbrook, L.A. was also linked to Chris Paul, but he's reportedly going to remain with the Phoenix Suns. 

Westbrook spent the 2020 campaign with the Wizards after one year with the Houston Rockets. The 32-year-old averaged 22.2 points, 11.5 rebounds and 11.7 assists per game while shooting 43.9% from the field and 31.5% from deep. 

The nine-time All-Star will be a significant upgrade from Dennis Schroder, who now will likely sign with a new team this summer. If Westbrook can provide the Lakers with what they were missing last season, they'll surely be among the league's top title contenders next year.
