Report: Michael Jordan 'voice of reason' during NBA owners meeting

The postponement of NBA games on Thursday due to social justice issues spurred a meeting among owners, and Michael Jordan reportedly played a major role in the discussions.

Jordan, owner of the Charlotte Hornets and only Black majority owner in the NBA, was a "voice of reason" in discussions with other team owners about how they can further help various social justice causes, according to ESPN's Jackie MacMullan.

The former Chicago Bulls star reached out to NBPA president Chris Paul before the meeting began to get a better understanding of what the players wanted to accomplish moving forward, MacMullan adds. Jordan also spoke with Houston Rockets star Russell Westbrook to discuss social justice issues that left some players calling for the cancellation of the season.

During the owners' meeting, Jordan urged other owners to allow players to express their frustrations and concerns before offering any solutions to the situation. The owners were unanimous in supporting the players and discussed various ways in which they could amplify their voices.

Many owners favored continuing the season, saying that playing games is still the best way to promote change. While players also voted to resume the season, their decision to boycott games over social justice issues will never be forgotten.

The Milwaukee Bucks were a driving force behind the boycotting of games on Thursday following Jacob Blake's shooting in Wisconsin. Milwaukee versus the Orlando Magic was the first game to be postponed on Thursday, and every other team followed in support of the movement.

The boycotting and postponement also reached other leagues as well. Various NFL teams canceled training camp on Thursday. The WNBA also opted to boycott games. The NHL decided to not play games on Thursday or Friday.
