Report: NBA tells Nets to lose timer mocking Giannis Antetokounmpo's long free-throw routine
The timer the Brooklyn Nets have been using to mock Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo's long free-throw routine is gone and will not return.
According to Peter Botte of the New York Post, the NBA told the Nets to stop displaying a timer on the scoreboard when Antetokounmpo is attempting free throws. The league does not want teams "inciting" fans to taunt opposing players.
Antetokounmpo's free-throw routine takes at least 10 seconds, which is a violation of the NBA's free-throw rule. Players are supposed to shoot the ball within 10 seconds of getting it from the referee.
The 26-year-old did not make any of his free throws in Game 1. According to the New York Post, two of his attempts took longer than 10 seconds, and he was not called for a rules violation.
The timer was only shown on the Jumbotron during Game 1. It was not displayed during Game 2, and Antetokounmpo made just two of his seven free throws in that contest.
The Nets lead the second-round series 2-0 after a massive 125-86 win in Game 2 on Monday.
