Report: Pistons rookie Killian Hayes suffers labral tear in hip

The Detroit Pistons will be without rookie point guard Killian Hayes for a while after he suffered an injury during the team's 125-115 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday.

Hayes reportedly suffered a labral tear in his hip while chasing down a Bucks player in transition, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

It's unclear how much time Hayes will miss, though a labral tear in the hip usually requires surgery, according to Sports Medicine Oregon. It could take up to six months to fully heal from hip surgery, though Sports Medicine Oregon says rehab is different for every individual.

The Pistons selected Hayes with the seventh-overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. In seven games this season, the 19-year-old is averaging 4.6 points, 1.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 27.7% from the field and 25% from deep.
