According to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Houston Rockets tried to trade for Brooklyn Nets forward Mikal Bridges.

The Nets told the Rockets that they are not trading Bridges.

“Recently, the Houston Rockets were among the teams to register trade interest in Bridges, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote. “Houston was prepared to send back several of Brooklyn’s unused remaining draft picks from the James Harden trade, but talks never got to that stage because the Nets declined to entertain anything for Bridges when Houston inquired.”

Bridges is one of the top two-way players in the NBA. He’s averaging 21.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.5 blocks this season while shooting 45.6% from the field, 36.4% from beyond the arc and 83.1% from the free-throw line.

Unless Bridges requests a trade from the Nets, the swingman will stay in Brooklyn. The Nets have zero interest in trading Bridges, who is making $21.7 million this season.

Bridges signed a four-year, $90.9 million rookie scale extension with the Phoenix Suns in October 2021. The Suns traded the 27-year-old to the Nets last season in the blockbuster Kevin Durant deal.

A Philadelphia native, Bridges has career averages of 14.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.6 blocks with the Suns and Nets. He has never missed a game in the NBA.
