Report: Spurs released Josh Primo amid 'multiple alleged instances of exposing himself to women'

Less than 24 hours after the San Antonio Spurs waived 2021 lottery pick Josh Primo, we now have some clarity about the team's reasoning.

According to a report from ESPN's Romana Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski, Primo's release stems from "multiple alleged instances of him exposing himself to women."

The Spurs' move to cut ties with Primo stunned the NBA world on Friday. Primo was only a year removed from being selected 12th overall by the Spurs in the NBA Draft, and just two weeks ago, the team picked up his option for the 2023-24 season.

In a statement issued to ESPN on Friday, Primo said he was dealing with past trauma and would take time to focus on his mental health after being released.

"I know that you are all surprised by today's announcement," Primo's statement read. "I've been seeking help to deal with previous trauma I suffered and will now take this time to focus on my mental health treatment more fully. I hope to be able to discuss these issues in the future so I can help others who have suffered in a similar way. I appreciate privacy at this time."

Primo averaged 5.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 50 games for the Spurs during his rookie season.

In four games for the Spurs this season, Primo averaged 7.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.

The 19-year-old is eligible to be claimed off waivers. Primo is under contract for two more seasons, scheduled to make $4.1M this season and $4.3M in 2023-24.
