Russell Westbrook will miss at least a week with quad injury

The Washington Wizards announced Russell Westbrook is expected to miss at least a week due to a quad injury, with ESPN reporting that the team will re-evaluate Westbrook's injury at the end of the week to re-assess his timeline.

The Wizards are already off to a disappointing 2-8 start to the season and now are dealing with several injuries, including starting center Thomas Bryant, who partially tore his ACL and will now miss the rest of the season. While Westbrook is fortunately not expected to miss nearly that much time, losing the team's second-best scoring threat is a tough blow to a team that is already in a bad spot.

Westbrook was traded from the Houston Rockets in exchange for John Wall and a first-round draft pick with the hope that he and Bradley Beal would be able to elevate the Wizards' offense and help make Washington a real contender. So far, that has not proven to be the case, and Washington has looked like one of the worst teams in the NBA. Westbrook is averaging 19.3 points, 11.3 assists and 9.7 rebounds this season, though he has only played seven games.

Thanks to the slow start, there are already rumors that coach Scott Brooks is on the hot seat and could be fired if he does not turn the season around soon. The entire scenario is especially disastrous for the Wizards because Beal could leave the team after the season. While he has previously expressed his desire to remain in Washington, another disappointing season could force him to consider moving on from the franchise.
