Steve Kerr takes leave of absence, Luke Walton named interim coach

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr will be taking a leave of absence from the team as he recovers from back surgery. After two days of training camp, it became clear to Kerr that he needed to take time off to undergo additional rehabilitation on his back to fulfill his duties as head coach.

Kerr's interim replacement? Assistant coach Luke Walton.

Walton, who played 11 seasons in the NBA, primarily with the Los Angeles Lakers, joined the Warriors coaching staff in July of 2014.

The 35-year-old Walton is also well known for being the son of Hall of Fame NBA player Bill Walton.

At the moment there is no timetable for head coach Steve Kerr's return.
