Timberwolves achieve impressive feat in huge comeback vs. Clippers

The Minnesota Timberwolves did more than flip the script during a stellar comeback victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night. They accomplished an extremely rare NBA feat in the process.

Trailing by 22 points at one point during the eventual 118-100 victory, Minnesota managed to not only overcome the deficit but actually took a 22-point lead of their own in the fourth quarter. With 1:44 remaining, a basket by T.J. Warren extended the Timberwolves' lead to 118-96.

As OptaStats detailed, this made them the first team out of 5,500 occurrences to ever overcome a 22-point deficit on the road en route to taking a 22-point lead dating back to the 2000-01 season.

It was a stellar turnaround for the Timberwolves, made even more impressive by the fact that they're without star big man Karl-Anthony Towns, who underwent surgery on a torn meniscus on Tuesday.

Minnesota was led by budding superstar Anthony Edwards, who poured in 37 points on 15-of-29 shooting with eight rebounds and four assists. Mike Conley tallied 23 points as well, but it was Nickeil Alexander-Walker, logging 28 minutes off the bench, who also had a standout performance. The 25-year-old scored 28 points on 9-of-10 shooting and knocked down 5-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc.
