Tyrese Haliburton’s mom and dad have been his biggest supporters throughout his NBA career. Tyrese Haliburton’s mom, Brenda, and his dad, John, have been there every step of the way.

Haliburton was born in Oshkosh, Wis., on Feb. 29, 2000. He played college basketball for the Iowa State Cyclones, which led to the Sacramento Kings drafting him 12th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. Haliburton earned a second-team All-Big 12 honor in 2020.

Haliburton went to Indiana in 2022 as part of a trade package for Domantas Sabonis. The trade was at first disappointing for Haliburton, but he earned back-to-back Eastern Conference All-Star selections as a reserve in 2023 and a starter in 2024.

Haliburton agreed to a max contract extension with the Pacers worth $260 million over five years. He was also given a spot on the United States Men’s National Team at the 2023 World Cup. He helped the United States earn a berth in the 2024 Olympics and was also named to that team alongside some of the NBA’s biggest names.

Haliburton set a bunch of records during the 2023-24 season, including the Pacers’ mark for most assists in a single season. He also tied Jamaal Tinsley’s franchise record for most assists in a game with 23. He put his name alongside Magic Johnson and John Stockton as the only players in history to record back-to-back 20-point and 20-assist games.

Haliburton will attempt to honor his mother with a big performance on Mother’s Day in Game 4 against the Knicks in the second round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

Who is Brenda Haliburton?

Brenda Haliburton hails from Wisconsin. She doesn’t get herself into the public spotlight as much as her husband, but Tyrese credits her just as much, or more for his success in his basketball career. Haliburton got emotional talking about his mother at the press conference for his five-year, $260 million contract extension.

“There’s so many people for me to thank but I’d be wrong if I didn’t start with my mom,” Haliburton said. “My mom has been my everything for me to get here.

“I can’t even put into words to explain everything but I’m just really appreciative of you, Mom, because of all the stuff of us growing up and pushing me to be where I am today and making sure I could get to every trip, making sure my teammates made it to every trip — it just means a lot to me, so I love you, and I’m really appreciative of you.”

Who is John Haliburton?

John Haliburton’s basketball career didn’t go as far as his son’s. However, he is a lover of the sport and stays involved in any way he can. John had a short basketball career, but now referees in Wisconsin. He also attends as many of Tyrese’s games as he can, making his presence known by giving pointers to Tyrese’s teammates and offering support.

Tyrese joked about his dad’s refereeing career on an episode of Inside the NBA. “He’s a terrible ref, don’t let him lie to you. We got into it last night — he’s a terrible ref.”

Nevertheless, this is all we know about Tyrese Haliburton’s mom, Brenda, and his father, John.
