Wizards' Davis Bertans will sit out Orlando restart

The Washington Wizards will be without one of their best players when the NBA season resumes at Walt Disney World next month.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim Bontemps, Davis Bertans will reportedly sit out the NBA's restart in Orlando as a preventative measure.

Bertans, who is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, has suffered multiple injuries in the past. A 42.4 percent shooter from three-point range this season, Bertans proved his worth to the Wizards and any team who may be looking to sign him. It won't be surprising if he cashes in on a big deal despite sitting out the Orlando restart.

This could be the start of a trend for many of the NBA's biggest stars who have been said to be weighing the pros and cons of resuming the season next month for various reasons. However, it may become trendy with a number of unrestricted free agents... especially ones with an injury history like Bertans.

Washington trails the eighth-place Orlando Magic by 6.5 games and needs to make up at least 2.5 games to have a chance at a play-in tournament. If they make it happen, they'd be rewarded with a first-round matchup against the dangerous Milwaukee Bucks. With the Wizards having a low probability of winning the NBA title, it was an easy decision for Bertans to sit out.

Opting out will be more difficult for players on elite teams to do. The Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers and Bucks, for example, have much more at stake than the Wizards. It'll certainly be interesting to see how many players decide to sit out.
