Zach LaVine doesn't fly to Tokyo Olympics due to protocols

Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine did not travel with the Team USA basketball squad Monday to Tokyo for the upcoming Summer Olympics after being placed into health and safety protocols.

Per Brian Windhorst of ESPN, USA Basketball is hopeful LaVine will be able to join the team in Japan at some point this week.

Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal was ruled out of the Olympics Thursday due to the protocols. Jerami Grant of the Detroit Pistons recently missed four days of work while in contact tracing quarantine.

According to Windhorst, LaVine averaged 10.3 points across four exhibition contests for Team USA. Following Monday's developments, only eight players were available to travel with the squad to Japan. Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday and Devin Booker are set to fly to Tokyo following the ongoing NBA Finals but may not arrive until 24 hours before the U.S. opens its tournament versus France on Sunday.

Game 6 of the Finals between the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks is Tuesday night in Milwaukee with the Bucks holding a 3-2 series lead. Game 7, if necessary, would be Thursday night in Phoenix.
