2023 NFL quarterback analysis: New York Giants

Current starter: Daniel Jones  | Current backup: Tyrod Taylor

State of the position: What a difference a year makes. Last year, a 4-13 record had the Giants at the bottom of the NFC East and many fans looking to replace Jones. Thanks to new HC Brian Daboll, the team went 9-7-1 in 2022, and thanks to Jones, they just won their first playoff game since 2011.

In the 2022 regular season, Jones threw for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns with only five interceptions. It’s the second time Jones has thrown for more than 3,000 yards in a season, and his 708 rushing yards were a career-best.

Jones couldn’t have picked a better time to have his best season. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent in 2023.

Pro Football Network believes the Giants may want to sign him to a two-year contract, but four years at $25 million-$30 million per year seems more likely. If Jones holds out, the franchise tag could cost the team around $45 million.

Key stat: In Sunday's win against the Vikings, Jones became the first player in NFL history with at least 300 passing yards, 70 rushing yards, and two touchdown passes in the playoffs.

2023 QB forecast: With $56 million in cap space, the Giants should have no problem getting Jones the contract he deserves. Taylor remains a bargain with a $5,450,000 base salary, so Giants fans should expect both he and Jones back in the fold for the 2023 season.
