There are not many times an NFL team needs to consider replacement options for their punter. The Philadelphia Eagles are in that boat though. After their 48-22 victory over the New York Giants, the Eagles’ playoff-clinching win came at a cost.
Punter Arryn Siposs was reported to be out multiple weeks with a lower-leg injury he suffered after getting a punt blocked, returning it, and getting violently hit before he got to the first down marker.
In short, the Eagles need a punter. Here are three options they can consider on the open market.
Brett Kern
Brett Kern is a very likely option and already has a workout with the team being scheduled shortly. Kern is a former All-Pro and pro-bowl player but lost his job with the Titans this offseason when Ryan Stonehouse beat him out in camp.
Kern has playoff experience and has consistently boasted a big leg. How well will he work if he were to be signed in Philadelphia? That will be the key with the weather a lot colder than in Tennessee.
Jordan Berry
Jordan Berry is younger than a lot of the current free agent options at punter, and like Kern hasn’t played in 2022 to this point. He doesn’t have the biggest leg to him but has been known to be successful with pinning teams inside the 20-yard line: a key for the 2022 Eagles.
Dustin Colquitt
Colquitt’s another punter with plenty of NFL experience and has even won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs not too long ago. He’s got an average leg, and pretty solid accuracy inside the 20 but is 39 years old. Depending on where the Eagles end up with Siposs, it could determine who ends up getting signed.
