The San Francisco 49ers added former Steelers offensive lineman Jesse Davis to their active roster for their Thanksgiving game against the Seattle Seahawks. Davis signed to their practice squad in October 31st, and spent time with the Seattle Seahawks as well before landing in San Francisco. They elevated him from their practice squad due to injuries to starters Aaron Banks and Spencer Burford.

The Steelers Davis from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick last year. He spent the entire season on the team’s active roster as depth insurance in case injury came about.

Davis, 31, has played both tackle and guard in his seven-year NFL career. He joined the Vikings as an unrestricted free agent this March after having spent the previous six seasons with the Miami Dolphins.

Davis was a five-year starter with Miami. He was the primary starter at right guard in 2017, 2018 and 2020 and right tackle in 2019 and 2021. Davis has also played left guard and left tackle. His best season, according to Pro Football Focus came in 2020, when he had 62.6 overall grade. While in Miami, Davis became a key contributor at multiple spots, and that is where he earned his most playing time. .

The Steelers have had noteworthy struggles on their offensive line when they acquired Davis, who can play guard and tackle in a pinch.  The addition of Davis would simply help the depth for the 49ers. Banks ended up playing against the Seahawks in a valiant effort despite the injury.
