49ers' Brock Purdy reacts to remarkable record

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has still won every NFL game he's started and finished healthy, and NBC Sports' Peter King mentioned the 49ers are 13-0 in contests when Purdy has played at least three quarters. 

"Every level that I’ve played at growing up it’s like you get to that level and at first you may think it’s a big deal, but then once I start playing it’s like, 'Man this is just football,'" Purdy said about his accomplishments while speaking with King shortly after San Francisco's dominant 42-10 "Sunday Night Football" win over the Dallas Cowboys. "Youth to high school, high school to college, and college to NFL. Just football. Yes, everyone’s better at every level, but at the end of the day, man, you’re throwing a football to some guys trying to get open and catch it. And that’s really how I look at it. Try to keep it simple. This is a simple game." 

Purdy entered the NFL as the final pick of the 2022 draft and won his first seven starts, including the playoffs, as a rookie before he suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow during the NFC Championship Game in January. Against Dallas, the 23-year-old completed 17-of-24 pass attempts for 252 yards and four touchdowns en route to helping the 49ers improve to 5-0. 

According to ESPN stats, Purdy began Monday leading the league with an 83.7 adjusted QBR and a 123.1 passer rating on the season. As of Monday afternoon, OddsChecker listed Purdy as third among the betting favorites at +700 odds to earn NFL Most Valuable Player honors behind only Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs (+450) and Tua Tagovailoa (+525) of the Miami Dolphins. 

During his post-victory chat with King, Purdy credited his faith for remaining such a cool customer as he flirts with becoming a household name among casual fans, many of whom still question if the second-year pro has the arm talent needed to win the toughest games on the biggest stages. 

"If you were to tell me these stats last year, I maybe would’ve been like, 'Man, that’s crazy,'" Purdy added. "I came in as a rookie, and I was sort of in awe of everybody. But then once I got acclimated to the culture and the organization, I’m like, 'Man, this is the standard, and this is what we’re trying to do.' That’s where I’m at with my mindset. I don’t try to get caught up in what’s going on, what everyone else says outside." 

Purdy will next look to silence doubters when the unbeaten 49ers play at the 2-2 Cleveland Browns this coming Sunday. Per ESPN, the Browns ended the weekend ranked first in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game (125.0) this season.
