49ers QB Brock Purdy's MVP odds get boost from 4-TD performance vs. Cowboys
Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

Brock Purdy was dubbed "Mr. Irrelevant" in 2022 after the San Francisco 49ers made the quarterback the last overall pick in that year's draft. Fast forward to this season, and the second-year player is entering the discussions surrounding NFL MVP.

Purdy is coming off a phenomenal performance against the Dallas Cowboys. He completed 17 of 24 pass attempts for 252 yards and four touchdowns, achieving a career-best passer rating of 144.4 in the decisive 42-10 victory.

Purdy has been consistent since taking over the starting job in December of last season. The 23-year-old quarterback now boasts a perfect 10-0 record as a regular-season starter. He has amassed 1,217 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and no interceptions. His 123.1 passer rating and 83.7 QBR lead the NFL.

"He does a hell of a job," tight end George Kittle said of Purdy after the game. "He's just so consistent week in, week out, day in and day out. You have the same guy Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Seven days a week, he's the same person.

"So it's awesome to be around a guy like that, who's just that consistent. The throws he makes on Wednesdays are the throws he's making in the game."

Purdy's odds of winning the NFL MVP award saw a significant surge following Sunday night's game. Starting the season at +3000 and entering Week 5 at +1600, he's now firmly in the conversation with odds of +700. This ties Purdy for the fourth-best odds alongside Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who led the MVP race just a week ago.

Only Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts own better odds.

Purdy's teammate, running back Christian McCaffrey, is tied for the seventh-best odds at +2000.
