49ers' Fred Warner has hilarious wish for wild-card round of playoffs

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner spoke with reporters after Thursday's practice and shared a humorous wish he has for the NFC clubs participating in the wild-card round of the playoffs this coming Sunday and Monday.

"I'm excited to watch," Warner said about the upcoming games, according to David Bonilla of 49ers WebZone. "Just as a football fan, excited to watch and obviously seeing who we play. But I hope everybody loses. I hope everybody loses, and then, who knows? And then we won't have to play."

The 12-5 49ers learned before this past Sunday's 21-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams that they would enter the postseason tournament as the NFC's No. 1 seed. Per Briana McDonald of the 49ers' website, San Francisco will face the lowest-seeded team remaining of the Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers in the next round of the playoffs.

The No. 7 Packers play at No. 2 Dallas Cowboys this Sunday afternoon. The No. 6 Rams are at the No. 3 Detroit Lions on Sunday night. No. 5 Philadelphia plays at No. 4 Tampa Bay this coming Monday evening.

Ahead of Super Bowl LVII, 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey revealed he was hoping the Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs would both find ways to lose that matchup. Of course, McCaffrey made his comment after San Francisco fell to Philadelphia in the 2023 NFC Championship Game.

"You always remember those moments," Warner said about the 49ers losing back-to-back conference title contests. "...And the part that sucks is you can't just blink and you're right back into having an opportunity to go back and do it again. And so you start from ground one—(organized team activities), minicamp, training camp. You got to build the team back up again, and it feels like just yesterday we were doing that. But you blink, and we're here."

For now, Warner can kick his feet up and be a fan before he and his teammates dive into game film early next week.
