The San Francisco 49ers‘ frustration following their second loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl has resulted in the team attempting to tear their opponents’ coaching roster apart. The 49ers reportedly made an attempt to bring Steve Spagnuolo, the defensive coordinator of the Chiefs onboard after losing the big game.
As per ESPN’s Dan Graziano , Kyle Shanahan and Co. “explored the possibility of hiring Steve Spagnuolo away from the Chiefs for their defensive coordinator position.” But of course, their attempt failed. There’s no way Spagnuolo was leaving the Chiefs for the 49ers, especially not after the outcome of the Super Bowl.
The 49ers decided to promote Nick Sorensen, the team’s assistant coach to the position of defensive coordinator. In addition to this, Brandon Staley, the former HC for the Los Angeles Chargers joined the coaching staff. In light of this news, it makes sense why Kansas City wasted no time in extending Steve Spagnuolo.

As per the terms of his new deal, he will be paid an estimated $5 million per year. His contributions to the team since 2019 cannot be overlooked. His defensive strategies have led the Chiefs to four Super Bowls and three victories in the last five years. He has been a big part of this dynasty.
Steve Spagnuolo has managed to deliver consistently irrespective of who is on the defensive roster. This season, the Chiefs were the second-best in the NFL in terms of yards and points allowed. They showed up when it mattered the most which was during the Super Bowl, in overtime, the 49ers could not get anything going because of the Chiefs’ defense.
The Kansas City Chiefs are going above and beyond to make sure they retain their key pieces on the coaching staff because their coordinators have remained consistent when it comes to delivering results. Tough luck for the 49ers, they will need to figure out another way to get one over their opponents because so far, the Chiefs remain to be their kryptonite.
