A healthy Randy Ramsey should be solid depth piece for Packers

The Green Bay Packers will have some more help on the edge in 2022.

Yes, the team drafted Kingsley Enagbare out of South Carolina in the fifth round of April's NFL Draft. However, the team is also getting back a backup pass-rusher and special teams contributor in Randy Ramsey

Ramsey is returning from a broken ankle that ended his 2021 season before it got started way back in training camp last July. The former Arkansas star signed with the Packers in 2019 as an undrafted free agent. He played in 12 games in 2020 while rushing the passer and helping out on special teams.

When Ramsey practiced last Tuesday, it marked one year since he suffered the ankle injury that cost him all of 2021. However, it is a new year and a clean slate for the 26-year old.

If fully healthy, Ramsey will help give veterans Preston Smith and Rashan Gary a cushion on the edge when they need a quick break. Ramsey also finished third on the team in special teams tackles with nine. It is almost a certainty that Special Teams Coordinator Rich Bisaccia will use him heavily in that phase. It is obvious that he is a versatile piece that has experience contributing on multiple sides of the ball for the Packers. Green Bay loves versatility and Ramsey definitely has that characteristic.

The Packers hope No. 56 is ready to make an impact this upcoming season. If he remains healthy, he will provide great depth on defense and important experience on special teams.
