Aaron Jones weighs in Aaron Rodgers saga
Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones said he doesn't want quarterback Aaron Rodgers to go anywhere.
"I hope he is not going nowhere," Aaron Jones said Tuesday on NFL Network's Good Morning Football, via Around the NFL writer Kevin Patra. "Especially not Vegas. You know he played with Tae (Davante Adams), so I hope that wouldn't happen. He's my quarterback, so I hope he's back. If he's back, we are ready to ball with him. If not, then we have Jordan Love, who's more than capable, and he's ready to ball as well and ready for his shot."
The New York Jets received permission to speak with Rodgers on Tuesday. According to ESPN, a group of Jets team officials, including Jets owner Woody Johnson, general manager Joe Douglas, head coach Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, flew to California on Tuesday to meet Rodgers in person.
"I definitely keep seeing that everywhere the Jets want him, but as of right now, he's in Green Bay if he comes back and plays," Jones said. "I don't want him going anywhere. You guys (Jets fans) can have one of those veteran quarterbacks. Jimmy G, he's a winner and they can win with him. I like Jimmy G."
If Rodgers were to leave, it would end an era for the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay's offense has been centered around Rodgers since he took the place of Brett Favre in 2008. The result was a Super Bowl win in 2011 and multiple postseason appearances.
The question is whether quarterback Jordan Love is ready to replace Rodgers.
Bringing in a veteran quarterback to replace Rodgers may be more challenging than it sounds. Derek Carr recently signed with the New Orleans Saints, and other veterans seem to be on track to stick with their original teams.
The Packers have expressed confidence in Love should it be his time to take over under center. While the team may be comfortable moving forward with Love, it clearly isn't Jones' preference.
