Aaron Rodgers: 'Are we gonna have a season?'
Around this time of year, Aaron Rodgers would typically be preparing for the upcoming season, hoping to help the Packers return to the Super Bowl. However, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Rodgers is instead left asking if the season is going to happen at all.
"I think top of mind is are we gonna have a season?" Rodgers told Pro Football Talk. "I think there's a lot of things yet to be figured out. We're hopeful, we're hopeful that it's with fans and we can get all the testing procedures down the way they want it for the utmost amount of safety. But I think we're kind of waiting for the league and the [NFL Players Association] to figure some things out."
The NFL and NFLPA are set to meet Monday, and it is assumed that they will discuss a number of topics they currently do not agree on, including the length of the preseason. While the league has indicated it will be reduced to two games, the Players Association has expressed serious concern about the preseason being played at all.
Additionally, the NFL will need to figure out if fans are going to be allowed to attend games and if so, what that experience will look like. The Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars have already announced they will not be at capacity during home games this season, while the Packers have said that fans will be required to wear masks. However, it is likely that with the pandemic showing no signs of slowing down, there will need to be a league-wide approach to fan attendance.
