Aaron Rodgers expects to deal with toe injury 'at least the next few weeks'

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers may never divulge how he suffered what's become a mystery toe injury before he returned to action to guide the Packers to a 17-0 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 14.

Rodgers admitted after Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings that dropped Green Bay to 8-3 on the season the setback was "very, very painful." Despite that, head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters Monday he expects his QB will start Sunday's matchup against the 7-3 Los Angeles Rams ahead of his team's much-needed bye week.

The reigning NFL Most Valuable Player spoke about the issue during his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show."

"I believe that I mentioned that it was more painful than turf toe, and I had turf toe two years ago," Rodgers explained Tuesday, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. "The problem with turf toe is it’s that joint in your big toe, and it is very painful. So naturally, I’m leading people to understand that if it’s worse than turf toe, there must be some sort of bone issue. Again, it’s better the fifth (pinkie) toe than the first toe or even the second or the third or probably the fourth toe.

"I’ve already talked enough on this show about my medical status. I’ve given you enough information at this point. I have a toe injury that’s not going away, and I’m going to be dealing with it at least the next few weeks."

The 37-year-old added he's not considering sitting to give his toe extra rest ahead of the home game against the Chicago Bears on Dec. 12. Thus, the hope for Rodgers and company is that the injury doesn't worsen over the final four quarters of action before the bye.
