Aaron Rodgers lost his favorite target when Davante Adams put the Green Bay Packers in the position to trade him earlier this offseason. In order to help replace the production Adams had in Green Bay, the Packers signed wide receiver Sammy Watkins to a one-year contract. While in Green Bay for the team’s mandatory minicamp, Rodgers spoke about what he liked about his new veteran wide receiver.

It was no secret that Aaron Rodgers loved the move by the Packers’ front office. He had said previously that he texted Watkins as soon as he heard that the deal was done. Now that both players have seen some form of organized team activities this offseason, they can begin building chemistry that will help them produce on the field.

Both Aaron Rodgers and Sammy Watkins Can Change Narratives This Season

The narrative that has followed Sammy Watkins for most of his career is that he is injury prone and cannot stay on the field. He said as much himself when he addressed the Packers’ media during minicamp. If he can stay healthy, he can be a major weapon in the Green Bay offense. With Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback, there is really no limit on what he can accomplish.

For Aaron Rodgers, the narrative is that he cannot get over the hump and back into the Super Bowl. Last season, especially, he was criticized for forcing throws to Davante Adams instead of to more open wide receivers. With Adams gone, Rodgers will be able to prove that he can win without his former No. 1 target. While he does have a few familiar faces still around in Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard, he will be working in large part with young, unproven talent this season. Winning with this group would change a lot of talking points on the major sports networks.
