Aaron Rodgers to let Packers know of plans before free agency

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters Monday he's "hopeful" star quarterback Aaron Rodgers will remain with the organization for at least another season coming off Saturday's home loss to the San Francisco 49ers that eliminated the NFC's top seed from the postseason.

Rodgers sparked plenty of drama throughout 2021 when he stayed away from the Packers for months amid rumors he no longer wanted to play for the club, but the 38-year-old told "The Pat McAfee Show" on Tuesday he will reveal a decision about his future before free agency starts when the new NFL year opens in March.

Earlier on Tuesday, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio suggested the Packers could remove any doubt about Rodgers' status by offering the signal-caller something in the ballpark of a two-year contract worth $100 million in "fully guaranteed" money. However, others have already begun linking Rodgers with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team potentially in danger of losing Tom Brady to retirement this offseason.

NFL Network's Greg Rosenthal believes Rodgers and the Packers need each other for the 2022 season, and Rodgers hinted earlier this month he and general manager Brian Gutekunst were back on the same page following a tumultuous 2021.
