A.J. Brown explains difference between Jalen Hurts, Ryan Tannehill

He’s been a member of the Philadelphia Eagles for a full season, yet two-time Pro Bowl receiver A.J. Brown can’t seem to stop talking about his former team, the Tennessee Titans.

On a recent appearance on the “Raw Room” podcast hosted by Daren Bates, Jalen Collins and Alex Sweet, Brown admitted to telling the Eagles all of the Titans offensive signals ahead of their Week 13 matchup — won 35-10 by Philly — and he also spilled the difference between playing with Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill and Eagles QB Jalen Hurts.

“Me and Tannehill was like intact,” Brown said. “But the friendship between me and Jalen, it’s like on another level. Tannehill is my guy, but Jalen, that’s my best friend. I could easily just (tell Hurts to throw it deep) … and gone. In Tennessee, it wasn’t going like that. You’ve got to call the play. …But (in Philly) we leave the huddle and be like (throw the ball deep). So like, you can’t ask for it any better way as a receiver.”

The numbers would appear to back up Brown’s claim. He logged 23 receptions of 20 or more yards with Hurts this season but never had more than 15 such catches in three seasons with Tannehill.

Brown also had the second-most receptions of 40 or more yards this year (six) — his most since he had eight in his rookie year in 2019.

In his first season playing with Hurts, Brown hauled in career-highs with 88 receptions for 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns. He set an Eagles record for single-season receiving yards, and he matched his career high for single-season touchdown grabs. He was also voted a Second-Team All-Pro — the first such honor of his career.

In Brown's three previous years in Tennessee, he averaged 61 receptions, 998 yards and eight touchdowns per season.
