Al Michaels: Retired OL Andrew Whitworth receiving calls from NFL teams ahead of playoffs

Whispers about retired offensive tackle and two-time First-Team All-Pro Andrew Whitworth potentially returning for the upcoming NFL Playoffs aren't quieting ahead of the new year.

As Awful Announcing's Brandon Contes noted, legendary play-by-play announcer Al Michaels may have broken some news about his Amazon Prime Video teammate during the "Thursday Night Football" game between the Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans.

"I was talking to Andrew Whitworth – part of our crew – last night, who’s been a great left tackle, retired of course. There are teams that are calling Andrew right now," Michaels explained late in the third quarter of Thursday's contest. Specifically, Michaels said the Cincinnati Bengals "probably" reached out to the 41-year-old.

Whitworth spent 11 campaigns with the Bengals and was recently linked with a return to Cincinnati after the AFC North club lost starting right tackle La'el Collins to a season-ending knee injury

"And we were talking about, he said 'If I could play left tackle, I would sort of think about it,' that’s what he said," Michaels continued about Whitworth. "I don’t want to put him on the spot here. But he said, 'Right tackle, I couldn’t do it.'"

Whitworth and other members of the Amazon crew have completed their "TNF" obligations for the season, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's at all close to joining the 11-4 Bengals as they prepare to host the 12-3 Buffalo Bills this Monday night. Per Ben Baby of ESPN, Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor scoffed at the idea of adding Whitworth to the roster earlier this week.

It's unclear which teams may have recently called Whitworth about playing left tackle next month and possibly through early February.
