Analyst jumping on Jordan Love hype train after impressive preseason showing

A sharp preseason performance from Green Bay's Jordan Love prompted one analyst to hop on the QB's bandwagon.

"I think Jordan Love is going to be a star," Mike Greenberg said Tuesday on ESPN's "Get Up." "He's following 30 years of first-ballot, Hall-of-Fame QB play. It's unfair to say anyone is going to be that good, but he's going to be a really good player immediately."

In 1992, the Packers started an unprecedented run at the QB position when Brett Favre assumed the starting role, winning three league MVPs and a Super Bowl in 16 seasons with Green Bay.

After the franchise dealt the HOFer to the Jets in 2008, Aaron Rodgers superseded him. In 18 seasons with the team, he captured four MVPs and its fourth Super Bowl title.

So saying Love has enormous shoes to fill is an understatement. Despite the immense expectations, the pressure hasn't fazed the 24-year-old. In two preseason games, Love completed 12-of-18 passes for 130 yards, two TDs and no interceptions.

"I think I've been really impressed with how he's handled himself," Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said of the fourth-year QB in a Monday news conference. "I think we've all seen the growth over these last few years."

Love is inexperienced, as the 26th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft only played in 10 regular-season games during his first three seasons. However, his preseason poise alleviates concerns.

Per OddsChecker, Green Bay has the second-worst odds (+400) of winning the NFC North this season. Yet it could defy expectations with elite QB play. The Packers O-line allowed the seventh-fewest sacks (32) in the league last season. And second-year wide receiver Christian Watson could break out after catching seven TDs in 14 games.

If Love blossoms into the franchise's next outstanding QB, he will ensure the organization remains atop the division.
