Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs appear to be in need of some more weapons heading into next season.

The Chiefs tried to address their lack of depth at wide receiver by signing Marquise Brown in free agency, which certainly was a solid move by the club.

However, with Rashee Rice’s status for 2024 now up in the air due to legal issues, Kansas City may need to double down and add some more pieces.

Former NFL quarterback and current NFL.com analyst David Carr sees a potentially great fit for the Chiefs in the draft, naming Texas wideout Xavier Worthy as an answer.

In a draft headlined by wide receiver talents like Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers and Rome Odunze, Worthy is not necessarily a household name.

However, if the Chiefs manage to snag him with the 32nd overall pick, they may be landing themselves a big-time playmaker.

Worthy is coming off of a fantastic 2023 campaign in which he hauled in 75 receptions for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns. Not only that, but he set an NFL record by running a 4.21-second 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine in February, demonstrating his tremendous ability to stretch the field.

For a terrific deep ball thrower like Mahomes, having Worthy in tow would be scary. We have already seen what Mahomes can do with speedy receivers (see: Tyreek Hill), so if Worthy falls into Kansas City’s lap late in the first round, it could be a major coup for Andy Reid’s squad.

Worthy arrived at Texas in 2021 and immediately flashed his potential, catching 62 passes for 981 yards and 12 scores. He followed that up by snaring 60 balls for 760 yards while reaching the end zone nine times in 2022.

The Chiefs don’t have many other needs on their roster, so they may very well decide to roll with a receiver with their first-round pick. If Worthy is on the board at No. 32, Kansas City may certainly decide to grab him.

We’ll see if that scenario manifests for the Chiefs on April 25.
