Bears LB Khalil Mack out Sunday vs. 49ers

The 3-4 Chicago Bears will be without arguably their top overall player when they welcome the 2-4 San Francisco 49ers to town Sunday.

According to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN), the Bears have ruled star pass-rusher Khalil Mack out for Sunday's showdown at Soldier Field because of a foot injury that began bothering him early into the season. Head coach Matt Nagy added the team hasn't yet decided if Mack will go on injured reserve.

If Mack isn't placed on IR by Sunday but goes on the list after the 49ers game, he would have to miss a minimum of three additional contests per league rules. The Bears will travel for a "Monday Night Football" matchup at the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 8.

Per ESPN stats, Mack leads the Bears with six sacks on the season, and he's tied for seventh in all of the NFL in that category. Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns leads the league with 9.5 sacks on the campaign.

Fellow Chicago pass-rusher and two-time Pro Bowl selection Robert Quinn should be good to go after he missed last Sunday's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because he reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

As for the Niners, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters earlier in the week he's keeping veteran Jimmy Garoppolo his starting quarterback over rookie Trey Lance for at least the Chicago game.
